About Traffic

Traffic began as a Windows desktop app by Sunny Side Up Software. It simulates cars and trucks travelling along a two-lane highway, with enough variation in speed and behavior to produce overtaking, queues and traffic jams.

This browser edition directly ports the Windows app's vehicle generation, following, passing, lane-change and closure rules. It retains the original model's quirks, including occasional vehicle overlap, while adding responsive rendering and private client-side save files.

What it demonstrates

A traffic jam does not disappear everywhere at once. After a closure is removed, vehicles at the front begin moving while approaching vehicles may still be slowing down. The resulting wave can travel backwards through traffic even though every vehicle moves forwards.

Privacy by architecture

The live model runs entirely on your device. The server provides the website but does not receive vehicle positions, settings or saved simulations.
